Korea Zinc passes US defense environmental review
Korea Zinc's $7.4 billion Project Crucible cleared a key U.S. environmental milestone after the Defense Department completed its Final Environmental Assessment under the National Environmental Policy Act and issued a finding of no significant impact. The review covered air quality, greenhouse gas emissions, water resources, waste and hazardous materials, and socio-economic effects. The planned Tennessee smelter would process 11 critical minerals, 12 non-ferrous metals including gold, and semiconductor-grade sulfuric acid using technology from Korea Zinc's Onsan Smelter. With the FONSI, the company will pursue individual construction and operational permits and seek required permits and financing.
