Viasat, Space42 form Equatys D2D satellite venture
Viasat is joining UAE-based Space42 to form Equatys, an independent, neutral and multi-participant satellite infrastructure platform focused on direct-to-device (D2D) and advanced mobile satellite services. The planned network is expected to use 3GPP-compliant non-terrestrial network technology and initially operate across globally harmonized L- and S-band spectrum, with access to more than 100 MHz of coordinated spectrum in many markets. Equatys aims to offer shared, multi-tenant infrastructure to reduce capital intensity, broaden user reach beyond specialized terminals, and enable new markets like aviation, maritime, autonomous vehicles, enterprise and national security.
Equatys will offer shared satellite D2D infrastructure across L- and S-band.
Context
Viasat and Space42 are creating Equatys to build D2D satellite infrastructure. The platform will use 3GPP-compliant NTN and L- and S-band spectrum. They may invite operators and other participants to use the shared network next.
