Iraq to sign pipeline deal with Syria

Iraq's cabinet approved steps to expand oil export and development capacity, authorizing Basra Oil Co.'s director general to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Syrian oil ministry to build pipelines linking production sites to global markets via the Mediterranean. The government also instructed the oil minister to begin talks with a consortium including ConocoPhillips, TI Capital and Novaterra on assessing exploration and development of the Akkas field. The oil ministry will put the Integrated Qayyara Project up for bidding and approved an exploratory well tender in Qara Tappah, while activating an Iraq‑Turkey water resources framework with financing effective Sept. 1.
