China agrees to import US coal and pursue tariff cuts
China agreed to buy at least 10 million metric tons of coal from the United States next year and again in 2028, and the two countries will pursue more favorable tariffs on $30 billion of non-sensitive goods, the White House said. US products eligible for preferential tariffs include agricultural goods, seafood, timber, cosmetics and medical devices, while covered Chinese items include small appliances, toys, holiday decorations and children's car seats. The pact follows a Trump-Xi summit and also set up trade and investment bodies, working groups on agriculture and critical minerals, a military crisis communication memorandum, and an AI dialogue by November.
