Banks line up to finance European AI data-center debt
JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs are among major banks assembling specialist teams to underwrite European data-center and AI-related debt as the region races to catch up with the US. Goldman Sachs estimates $5–10 billion of data-center bonds could reach markets by year-end, with larger issuance expected in 2027; by contrast the US has seen more than $350 billion of AI-related issuance this year. Europe may need roughly $3 trillion through 2035 for cloud and data-center infrastructure, while lenders weigh ESG and construction risks before heavier high-yield and investment-grade issuance arrives.
Europe could see $5–10 billion of data-center bonds by year-end
Context
The US has far more AI-related bond issuance this year than Europe. European banks and investors are preparing for larger data-center bond deals. Lender education and ESG scrutiny could shape the next wave.
