Tesla dismantles Fremont Model S and X assembly line

Tesla said it finished removing the original Model S and Model X assembly line at its Fremont factory in 46 days, posting footage of heavy machinery removing trenches, robotic equipment and prepping new flooring. CEO Elon Musk announced the programs' wind-down during the fourth-quarter 2025 earnings call, and the final cars rolled off in early May 2026. Fremont will be converted into a dedicated Optimus humanoid robot production line with limited output targeted for late July or August 2026, a Gen 3 Optimus unveiling around mid 2026, and long-term design capacity up to 1 million robots per year despite an expected slow initial ramp because the robot uses roughly 10,000 unique parts and lacks an established supply chain.
