Microchip demonstrates end-to-end PCIe Gen 6 storage architecture
4 min read

Microchip revealed an end-to-end PCIe Gen 6 storage architecture at the 2026 Future of Memory and Storage conference, pairing its Switchtec Gen 6 PCIe fanout switches with Micron 9650 NVMe SSDs to let drives operate at full Gen 6 speed. The setup supports composable and disaggregated designs to scale storage resources while keeping predictable performance. Switchtec Gen 6 switches are built on a 3 nm process, support high lane counts, multicast, advanced diagnostics and include a hardware root of trust with post-quantum-safe cryptography meeting CNSA 2.0, while the Micron 9650 targets AI, HPC and cloud workloads.
End-to-end PCIe Gen 6 demo shows higher throughput and lower latency.
