Tigers trade Tarik Skubal to Dodgers

The Detroit Tigers on Sunday traded ace Tarik Skubal to the Los Angeles Dodgers, receiving outfielder Zyhir Hope and right-handed pitchers River Ryan and Brady Smith. Skubal is a two-time Cy Young Award winner, and River Ryan is the only incoming player on the Tigers' 40-man roster; he has been assigned to Triple-A Toledo while rehabbing a hamstring, Hope will report to Double-A Erie and Smith to High-A West Michigan. The move leaves Detroit with a four-man rotation and the possibility of falling to three starters if Casey Mize is traded before Monday's 6 p.m. deadline, while several injured starters could return later in the season.
