Nigeria to play Russia in Nizhny Novgorod friendly
Nigeria will travel to Nizhny Novgorod for an international friendly against Russia on Oct. 6, the Nigeria Football Federation and the Russian Football Union confirmed. The match follows Nigeria's opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and gives coach Eric Chelle another opportunity to assess players after competitive games on Sept. 25 and Sept. 29. It is only the second senior meeting between the sides after a 1-1 draw in Moscow in June 2025. For Russia, the fixture is one of several friendlies used to fill international windows while its teams remain suspended from FIFA and UEFA competitions.
