Asian Games torch lit in Tokyo ahead of Nagoya meet
Organisers held a torch-lighting ceremony in Tokyo where sprinter Yoshihide Kiryu lit the flame at the National Stadium ahead of the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya and the Aichi area from September 19 to October 4. The continent-wide event will host about 15,000 competitors and officials and feature traditional and regional sports alongside new events such as mixed martial arts, padel and virtual taekwondo. Athletes will use diverse accommodation, including a docked cruise ship and 2,000 wooden container-style huts, while teen talents and established performers are expected to draw wider attention across Asia.
