Jacob Tsimerman, a University of Toronto mathematics professor, is widely seen as a leading candidate for the 2026 Fields Medal after major contributions to number theory and Shimura varieties. In 2021 he and colleagues Jonathan Pila and Ananth Shankar proved the André-Oort conjecture, and his research published last year on Shimura varieties drew further surprise and praise.
