4 min read

Spain will see an unusual run of three major solar eclipses in 532 days: a total solar eclipse crossing northern Spain on Aug. 12, 2026, a second total eclipse across southern Spain on Aug. 2, 2027, and an annular eclipse on Jan. 26, 2028. A small area of northeastern Portugal is also in the 2026 path. The 2026 totality will last a little over two minutes at maximum and occurs near sunset, while the 2027 path offers much longer totality farther east, peaking near Luxor at 6 minutes, 22 seconds. The 2026 eclipse coincides with a new moon and the Perseid shower night, affecting observation planning and tourism demand.
