ISRO's National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) released satellite imagery indicating a high-altitude glacier collapse upstream of Nepal's Rasuwa district that likely triggered a sudden flash flood and heavy debris surge along the Trishuli river system. Post-disaster Resourcesat-2A AWiFS and Landsat-9 images on August 26, 2026, compared with pre-event Sentinel-2 data show almost two-thirds of the glacier detached, an ice-rock avalanche descended into the drainage, and the Bhote Koshi river widened with inundation extending into adjoining valley areas near Rasuwagadhi and Timure. NRSC cautions the findings are preliminary and does not yet quantify damage, with cloud cover limiting parts of the assessment.
