Nigeria to roll out 90,000km national fibre optic network
The minister of communications announced that the federal government has finalised resource mobilisation and contracting for a 90,000-kilometre fibre optic network and will begin laying cable in the coming weeks after briefing the president. The project is designed to reach every state, geopolitical zone, local government and ward. The ministry also plans to deploy about 3,700 towers from October to serve over 20 million people without coverage, and to launch an alphanumeric postcode on October 1 that will give unique addresses for every building and support e-commerce, security and public service delivery.
