China Southern resumes direct flights to India

China Southern Airlines said on September 12, 2026 that it will resume regular passenger flights on the Guangzhou–New Delhi route from September 21, restoring direct India–China air links after nearly six years. The airline said it will operate more than 100 flights per week on eight round-trip routes in South Asia once services resume. The move follows earlier April resumptions by Air China (Beijing–Delhi) and China Eastern (Kunming–Kolkata) and IndiGo's new Kolkata–Shanghai service, and is tied to improving bilateral ties as Chinese president Xi Jinping visits New Delhi for the BRICS summit and meets Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
