Brazil urges WTO reform at G20 trade meeting
In Milwaukee at the G20 trade ministers meeting, Brazil's trade minister Márcio Elias Rosa called for urgent reform of the World Trade Organization and for universal trade rules, saying the WTO must be reinvigorated and made effective. He warned against using tariffs as instruments of coercion or discrimination and said Brazil remains committed to multilateral negotiation. Rosa noted agreement in principle, including from the United States, but said the next step is to decide the terms of reform; ministers also discussed food security and excess industrial capacity as ongoing issues.
