Brazil rejects U.S. tariffs and seeks WTO dispute

Brazil formally rejected tariffs the United States imposed on it and 59 other trading partners, calling the measure "completely arbitrary" and "unjustified." The Brazilian statement said the U.S. trade representative lacked a legal basis under domestic law and accused the U.S. of manipulating human rights and workers' rights concerns. Under the U.S. measure, Brazilian exports to the United States will face a 12.5% levy. Brazil said it will immediately start procedures under its Reciprocity Law and will take the dispute to the World Trade Organization, risking a formal trade challenge and possible reciprocal measures.
