Monet iris painting leads Schlumberger sale in Paris
A monumental Monet iris painted in 1924–25 and measuring 160cm by 180cm will headline a 28-lot sale from Jeanne Schlumberger's collection at Sotheby's Paris on 22 October with an estimate of €22m–€30m. As the largest iris from Monet's late series to reach the market, it could set a record for the highest price paid for a painting at auction in France. The collection, consigned by the Schlumberger family, is expected to fetch over €40m total, and three Cézanne panels in the sale were designated trésors nationaux, giving the French state 30 months to buy them.
