Florida board approves k-12 and college ai rules
The Florida Board of Education voted to require school districts and state colleges to adopt formal policies on artificial intelligence use in classrooms. K-12 districts must notify parents, obtain parental consent for ai products, offer non-ai instructional alternatives of similar quality, and complete policies by July 1, 2027 for the 2027–2028 year; ai in PreK–5 needs extra review and cannot meet students' social or emotional needs or use anthropomorphic features. Florida colleges must ban ai on graded work unless instructors allow it. Rules also restrict undisclosed monitoring, require staff training, demand immediate disabling capability, and bar vendors from monetizing student data or using it to train commercial ai models.
