Zcash activates Ironwood upgrade

8 min read

On July 28 the Zcash network activated the Ironwood upgrade at block height 3,428,143, bringing a new shielded pool and a guarded turnstile that controls value migrating from the retiring Orchard pool. zcashd was already halted before activation, so Zebra 6.0.0 is the supported full node client for post-upgrade validation. The turnstile limits and records flows from Orchard to the Ironwood pool so auditors can reconcile supply after an Orchard vulnerability. Immediate consequences include required Zebra deployments, wallet updates for turnstile migrations, and temporary operational steps by exchanges and custodians to avoid deposit issues.

Zebra nodes are required to validate Ironwood after Orchard is retired.
