UAE ministry launches Abu Dhabi call to action against environmental crime
At a session held on the sidelines of the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Abu Dhabi, the UAE Ministry of Interior and partners including UNODC, INTERPOL, France and Azerbaijan pushed a move from pledges to action against environmental crime. The session highlighted the International Initiative for Law Enforcement for Climate (I2LEC), launched in 2023, and presented Operation Green Shield 2026, a UAE-led effort targeting illegal mining, logging, wildlife trafficking, fuel smuggling and land seizure in the Amazon basin. Speakers stressed links between environmental crime and other transnational offences and called for stronger joint operations and enforcement capacity.
