Police intercept speedboat carrying 2.6 tonnes of cocaine in Atlantic

Italian, Spanish and Portuguese police intercepted a high-speed "go fast" boat in the Atlantic and seized more than 2.6 tonnes of cocaine, officials said. Four people were arrested: two Spaniards, an Albanian man living in Italy and a Gibraltar resident. Authorities estimated the wholesale value at about €78 million and a potential diluted retail value near €500 million. The interception took place about 90 kilometres southwest of Cape Espichel, off Lisbon, and highlights organised crime use of 10–16 metre, multi-engine craft to recover cargoes dropped at sea by ships from South America, with likely further joint investigations.
