AI boosts extremist online networks in Europe
A Europe-wide review found a growing threat from nihilistic violent extremism and continuing jihadist activity, with investigators from nine countries locating about 4,340 URLs linked to an online community called "The COM" during a June–July disruption. Europol data show 45 attacks last year across 10 EU countries, six fatalities, and 486 arrests in 21 countries, with around one third of those detained under 18. Authorities say AI-driven techniques — deepfakes, memes, AI-powered bots and apps — are amplifying recruitment, propaganda and attack research, creating new digital challenges for cross-border law enforcement and platform governance.
