Uber exits Nigeria and Uganda
Uber has announced the immediate closure of its operations in Nigeria and Uganda after a thorough business review, removing services it began in Nigeria in 2014 and in Uganda in 2016. The decision follows driver complaints about low app prices, high commission charges and rising fuel costs, plus pressure from rival platforms; Uber has already left Ivory Coast and Tanzania in the last year. The company said it will cut 10% of its global workforce, pledged support to affected staff and drivers, and will keep a help centre open for outstanding issues until 23 September.
