Iowa universities urged to post responses to federal call
The chair of the Iowa House higher education committee, Rep. Taylor Collins, sent letters Aug. 19 urging the Iowa Board of Regents and the Iowa Association of Independent Colleges and Universities to publish responses to U.S. education secretary Linda McMahon's Aug. 3 national call to action. McMahon asked university leaders to answer seven questions via statements posted on campus websites before the end of the year on topics including admissions transparency, free debate, affordability, academic pluralism, artificial intelligence rigor, teaching excellence and foreign influence protections. Collins pointed to recent Iowa laws and a 2026 free speech survey as context and said the committee will support and hold institutions accountable.
