EAC partner states seek education harmonization
Leaders and officials from the eight East African Community partner states met at a four-day conference in Nairobi with over 600 participants to press for harmonized curricula, aligned qualifications and stronger teacher development to close learning gaps. Delegates highlighted unequal access, teacher shortages, skills mismatches and weak transitions, and reviewed regional initiatives including an EAC TVET qualifications framework awaiting approval, the East African Common Higher Education and Research Area, and new guidelines for education statistics. The conference aims to produce a communiqué and roadmap to translate these regional frameworks into improved learning, mobility and labour-market relevance.
